This event was a collaboration with the Consulate-General of Japan in Chennai and various Japanese municipalities, demonstrating how music can serve as a bridge between nations. Surrounded by fellow music lovers from different backgrounds, I realized we were all part of something special – a moment where boundaries dissolved and cultures connected.

Minichestra, a professional five-piece orchestra from Japan, took the stage with an ensemble that immediately caught my attention. The extraordinary orchestra performance was brought to life by talented musicians Ryo Takamiyagi, Kei Oe, Shinnosuke Seto, Akie Tamura, and Haruka Mori, who together form the heart of Minichestra. 
The combination of violin, cello, contrabass, flute, and piano created an intimate yet powerful sound that filled every corner of the hall. What struck me most was how this “mini orchestra” could produce such rich, full-bodied music.
The audience was a beautiful mix of anime enthusiasts, classical music lovers, and curious souls drawn by the promise of cultural fusion. What awaited us was a performance that would bridge two worlds – the rich musical heritage of Japan and the vibrant cultural landscape of Tamil Nadu.

They’ve performed at various major events like “Connichi” in Germany, where they performed to audiences of 2,000 people, and at Europe’s largest Japanese cultural event, “Japan Tag Düsseldorf.” Their appearance at Asia’s largest all-Japan event, “JAPAN EXPO THAILAND 2024,” further solidified their reputation as cultural ambassadors through music.
Special Performances and Community Engagement
One of the most heartwarming moments of the evening came when school children from Madurai took the stage to perform a Japanese anime song, their young voices filling the hall with pure joy and enthusiasm.
The cultural exchange became even more meaningful when a talented singer from Chennai Neerajakshi Sunder Rajan, delivered powerful renditions of anime classics, including “Blue Bird” from Naruto Shippuden and a song from Demon Slayer, bringing the audience to their feet with thunderous applause.
Scoot Airlines Partnership
Adding to the excitement of the evening, Scoot, Singapore Airlines’ budget carrier subsidiary, partnered with the event to offer exciting giveaways, including tickets to Japan. This partnership was particularly timely, as Scoot has been expanding its Japan routes and plans to add service to Tokyo Haneda and Okinawa in late 2025 and early 2026, making Japan more accessible than ever for travelers from Southeast Asia.
