Recently visited the Solitude Farm, Auroville at Pondicherry for the Food Discovery Trail. Solitude Farm was created as a self-sustainable natural farming community. Krishna McKenzie who is one of the founding pioneers of the Solitude Farm, hosted us the most inspiring and insightful food trail. The main aim of the farm is to manifest a dynamic integrated lifestyle, incorporating music and arts with farming. Solitude Farm also has a Organic Farm Cafe and a Farm Shop selling naturally grown, healthy Fruits, Vegatables, Plants and Seeds. They also regularly organize 3-Day Perma Workshop, to get the hands-on experience about the organic farming.
We kick-started our day with fresh organic and nutritious tea and along with a healthy breakfast, followed by the book reading session of ‘The One-Straw Revolution‘ written by the most celebrated Japanese natural farmer and philosopher – Masanobu Fukuoka san.
Next, we continued with our main trail, started exploring the greenish farm which is home-grown with plants, food crops including wild greens, flowers, fruits, vegetables, cultivated all using the community-driven natural farming principles and Permaculture techniques. Followed by our farm tour, we joined with their team in the preparation of the most healthy, uplifting lunch at their open kitchen using the fruits, vegetables, flowers that are collected during our trail at the farm.
Post lunch, we had a hands-on garden intro session on the practical ways to implement natural farming concepts. After our natural garden session, we ended the day with yet another chapter reading from the book ‘The One-Straw Revolution’ and along with a happiest, upbeat song and guitar playing by Krishna. The trips really provided a great energetic experience in connecting and exploring the natural farming live and direct.
Special thanks to The Soul Window team – Bonnie A. Jose and Madhuri Narayan, who brilliantly organized such a remarkable trip. The Soul Window is a travel curator who organizes custom personalized trips for groups and family based on our needs.
