Manal Magudi theatre troupe – மணல்மகுடி நாடக நிலம் is one of the well-known Award-winning contemporary non-conventional, Tamil modern theatre companies based in Kovalpatti, Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. Murugaboopathy who was the recipient of Yuva Puraskar award for best playwright from Sangeet Natak Akademy, is the founder and writer of this Manal Magudi theatre troupe. He has staged 16 plays and composed music for more than 40 plays and 36 children plays to his credit. Murugaboopathy did his post-graduation in theatre arts at the famous Pondicherry University.

Manal Magudi theatre troupe continuously experiments with the new genre of theatrical content and form in terms of visuals, text, movements, music, properties and space. The actors at this dramas speaks a poetic form of Tamil language exhibiting about the various social issues using human centric theatre practice body language and movements to express pain, exhaustion and angst.

In their drama they use farm lands props that reflect the sentiments of the local people and place like the hays, sticks, dolls and masks, sculptures, paintings and rags. The performers use body language to bring out different dimensions to their plays.

Music and Lightings are yet other major segments at their play. The Instruments such as didgeridoo, air flute, Bohemian flute and African drums are been used. Many of these instruments they use at their plays are been used by tribal peoples like Irulas, Toda and Badaga communities.

Manal Magudi theatre troupe’s Tamil play has been showcased at the Bharat Rang Mahotsav, 17th International Theatre Festival at National School of Drama in New Delhi.
