Recently joined the visit to the Shrine of Bharata Muni and Museum at Bharata Ilango Foundation For Asian Culture (BIFAC). The Bharata-Ilango Foundation for Asian Culture (BIFAC) which is located in Pattipulam village which is 40kms from Chennai and 7kms near Mahabalipuram / Mammallapuram, East Coast Road (ECR).
The “back to the roots” walk was brilliantly organized and curated by Kartik Fine Arts and Priya Murle, as part of their yearly dance and culture event Natya Darshan 2019, an annual dance conference dedicated to broaden the discourse around dance in India. Our walk to the BIFAC Museum was magnificently guided by Dr Gayatri Kannan and Mahati Kannan. The enlighten tour briefly explained the heritage history, cultural importance and the 108 karanas that form the basis of the Natyasastra. 
The Bharata Muni temple / shrine is a must visit for dancers and dance connoisseurs. Bharata Muni who is known as the founding father of Natyasastra – the Bharatanatiyam. His work and contributions serve as an ancient encyclopedia on the arts, which has influenced dance, music and literary traditions in India. Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, a veteran Bharatanatyam dancer and an artiste with many talents, built this Bharata Muni shrine. Her passion for the field of Bharatanatyam encouraged her to envision and construct the shrine for Bharatha Muni, one of its kind, dedicated to the founder of Natyasastra. The foundation also does research alongside curation and preservation of cultures across South Asia.
BIFAC complex and the Museum have cultural relevant artifacts, the Kanchi Mahaswami library, the TAG digital library, and the Abhinavagupta conference hall for conducting seminars and workshops. It also displays the 100 years of Indian Classical History. This is a must-visit place for arts, culture and dance students and lovers.

The Bharata-Ilango Foundation for Asian Culture (BIFAC) which is located in Pattipulam village which is 40kms from Chennai and 7kms near Mahabalipuram / Mammallapuram, East Coast Road (ECR).
Through Roadways: Mahabalipuram Town is well connected to the cities in and around the region including Chennai via both private tourist buses (that operate from Chennai Central) as well as Tamil Nadu Public Transport bus services. Mahabalipuram is connected by a number of interconnecting roadways to Chennai, Chengalpattu, Pondicherry and Kanchipuram. You can take a bus to Mahabalipuram from Kanchipuram, Pondicherry and other nearby tourist areas. Once you reach Mahabalipuram you can easily walk or cycle your way through the small town.
Through Railways: Chengalpattu Junction railway station ( Station Code CGL) is of 22 kms is the nearest railway station.
