Recently joined the Food Walk in Mylapore, as part of The Sundaram Finance’s Mylapore Festival 2020 Cultural festival, which celebrates the arts, culture, and tradition of Chennai’s most favorite and oldest neighborhood – Mylapore.

The Food Walk was enthusiastically and elaborately curated by Sridhar Venkataraman, which explored the popular / best food joints & snack places in Mylapore. Sridhar Venkataraman through his most famous – “Chennai Food Walks” group, regularly organizes Food walks in Chennai. His walks mainly focus on the quality of food in specific places and their specialty / special items in and around that area, which is also inexpensive.

Sri Annapoorani Sweets, Mylapore

Sri Annapoorani Sweets is one of the famous food joints just nearby Mylapore Kapaleeswarar temple. Their are renowned for Homely tasty traditional Sweet and Snacks varieties like Medhu Pakoda, Special little Spicy Samosas and Sweet Samosa. Sweet and Snacks are available this shop at very reasonable prices.

Sri Karpagambal Kapali Sweet Stall, Mylapore

Sri Karpagambal Kapali Sweet Stall on Maddala Narayana Street, Mylapore is famous for their Pakodas, the most historic pakoda shop in Chennai. They are specialist at onion pakodas and mint pakodas. The stall is 42 years old and highly crowded in the evening at around 6 PM and the aroma of the pakodas will tempt us all to taste them. Their other famous iteams are the Sweet Bolis like Paruppu Boli and Coconut Boli are so additive and also other traditional hand-made sweets also available. For quick snakes we could try their Medhu bonda, Mini somosa, bhajji and savories.

Thirumayilai Varukadalai Nilayam is one of the oldest peanuts shop in Mylapore. Here we can get freshly roasted peanuts, jaggery and pori urundai are famous at this shop.

Mylapore Jannal Kadai – Window Bajji Stall, Mylapore

Mylapore Jannal Kadai Bajji Kadai – the window outlet Bajji shop is one of the best bajji shop, adjoining Kapaleeshwarar temple. The shop opens around 5.30pm in the evening, starts to serve hot and spicy bajji includes Vazhakkai bajji, Milagai bajji, Onion bajji and bonda with tasty coconut chutney. All the food items are served through the shop’s jannal – the food stall’s blue colored window. There is no signboard for this shop, but it is famous for it’s taste. They accept only cash and also have breakfast and dinner items included with added varieties for evening snack items.

The Mami Tiffin Stall, the famously called the Mami Mess is home-style meals served at affordable prices through out the day. It is one of the best eateries in Mylapore for more than 25 years. The Mami mess is moved to restaurant recently from kaiyendhi bhavan, self-service standing table stall type well known by the locality for their special food item Kollu kattai (both sweet & savory). Their menu includes all the famous vegetarian south Indian food items.

The Kalathi kadai Rose milk prepared at this shop is very famous in this area. This small shop has been around for nearly a century, offering preservative-free, refreshing rose milk. This shop was started by Kalathy Mudaliar in 1927 as Kalathy News Mart as a neighborhood shop for essential household provisional items, Over the years, the shop expanded to sell more products, Kalathy kadai’s rose milk that became a instant hit in the region.

Mylapore Ganapathy’s Butter & Ghee, Mylapore

Mylapore Ganapathy’s Butter & Ghee shop is more than seven decades old shop, started by Ganapathy Pillai in 1942 and now the shop is run continues by his grandson. If you want ghee’s which have high riche aroma, then Ganapathy’s Butter & Ghee is a place for us. Their butter is sourced directly from a place called the Uthkuli, which is famous for its butter and ghee products. The ghee is hand-churned at their own production unit. The ghee is not packed in the container and is freshly sold as per the customer’s needed quantities.

Currently they also sell products like podi, rice mixes, spicy pickles, appalam, thokkus , vadamsmaded from different pulses and chekku oils. They are best place to get all the dairy products especially Pure Buffalo ghee and Cow ghee available at this place.
