Just next to the tiger reserves in Jim Corbett National Park and in Kaziranga National Park, Nagarahole National Park is recognized as having one of the highest densities of tigers in India.
The name “Nagarahole” literally means “Nagara = Serpent” and the “Hole” means the Riverthe “Snake River” in Kannada language. Nagarahole Tiger Reserve is early called the Rajiv Gandhi National Park.
Nagarahole Tiger Reserve is a significant center for Project Tiger and Project Elephant conservation efforts, which is bordered to the south by the Bandipur Tiger Reserve and to the north by the Kabini River.

History of Nagarhole Tiger Reserve (NTR) / Nagarahole National Park
Way back in the 16th century, the Nagarhole region served as the private hunting area for the Wodeyar dynasty – the Maharajas of Mysore. The Government of India in 1955 recognizing the ecological importance of Nagarahole National Park declared this area a Wildlife sanctuary and later it was designated as a National park in 1988.

Nagarahole National Park offers two primary safari options Jeep / Van Safari and Boat Safari.
The JLR Jeep safari will be for 2.5 to 3 hours and allowing visitors to traverse the park’s rugged terrain and navigate through dense forests, grasslands, and riverbanks. Alternatively, the Boat Safari takes you on a serene journey along the Kabini River, offering a unique perspective and an opportunity to spot wildlife from the water. The highlight of any Nagarahole safari is undoubtedly the chance to witness the park’s diverse wildlife in their natural habitat.
