Recently visited Cholamandal Artists’ Village – the Museum Of Contemporary Art, located in East Cost Road (ECR) in Injambakkam, Chennai was founded by K. C. S. Paniker in 1950 which helped to bring the Madras art movement to South India. The Museum was named after the ancient Chola dynasty who were great supporters of various Art forms during the 9 – 13 centuries.
This village is the largest self-supporting forum for painters, sculptors and artists in India, which live as a community, maintains galleries, a performance space, a craft shop and an intimate café. It is great place to feel the Indian contemporary art forms.
