Recently walked to the Thiru Kutrala Natha Swamy temple is dedicated to Lord Siva. It is located near the main Water Falls of Kurtallam. the main Deity is ThiruKutralaNatharSwamy, the Goddess Ambal is called as Kuzhal Vaimozhi.There is a separate shrine for Adi Parasakthi which is very popular which is a Shakthi Peetha. In this temple ,Lord Shiva’s idol is Swayambhu – self formed.The temples consist of number of Shivalingam on the water falls rocks as like performing abishek to Lord Siva.
It is suggested that devotees should worship Shiva first before proceeding to Kuttralam.The temple was in the shape of a conch when it was a Vaishnavite shrine. The devotee can observe this form on the way to Shenbaga devi temple. King Raja Raja Cholan built the initial Thirukkutralanathar temple. The artha-mandapa, maha-mandapa, separate temple for the goddess and several other buildings were constructed during the Pandyan rule. Built at the time of the rule of Nayak, the temple of parasakthi, the compound wall, sangu road, inner street, and few other shrines.
There are the statues of Lord Vishnu, Kasi Viswanathar, Kasi Visalakshi, Tenkasi Viswanathar Swamy, Ulagammai Ambikai, Nellaiyappar Gandhimathi Ambal and Navagrahas. Lord Vallabha Ganapathy graces this holy place. Lord Muruga in the temple enclosure appears with a bow in his hand with his consorts Valli and Devasena. Appar, Sundarar, Gnana sambandhar and Manikkavasahar, the four great poets, have sung about this this place.
The Government of Tamil Nadu, Department of Archaeology’s Folk arts site Museum is near by this temple. It’s a must visit for all the people who have interests with ancient Tamil Arts and culture.
