A very interesting and enlightening talk by Ms. Ponni Selvanathan, a leading researcher, an expert in Indian Temple Architecture and sculpture from Sri Vaidyanatha Sthapati associates, under the aegis of Padmabhushan. Dr. Ganapathi Sthapati.

In this video, She discusses in detail the Hindu Temple Architecture, Devalaya Vaasthu, Linga Jirnoddhara – The Science of Restoration of Shivalinga, How and when temples need restoration and renovation, and the ways to do it according to the Vedas – Devalaya Vaastu shastras. She also explains the types of Shivalingas and their main features. Her talk focuses on Jirnodhara or the renovation of Shivalingas and Shivalayas of different categories.

In Hindu Temple traditions have ‘Shivalinga’ is the primal form. Scripture reveals that various Lingas are worshiped for each one with their own purpose and also describes remedies to restore them. Hence, Linga Jirnoddhara focuses on Repairs the renovation and restoration of Shivalinga unraveling the scientific aspects of the practice.
