Sri Agneeswarar Temple in Kadalur, Chengalpattu District, is one of the oldest Lord Shiva temples. The Sri Agneeswarar / Agniswarar Temple, believed to have been built around the 12th – 13th century, boasts numerous ancient inscriptions. A Chozha period-style pillar found in the Lord Murugan / Lord Subramaniyar Temple hints at the temple’s origins dating back to the Chozha era. Subsequent reconstructions during the Vijayanagara period and recent restoration efforts have preserved the temple’s sanctity.

This temple has a separate sanctum for Lord Shiva, Lord Murugan, Lord Ganesh, Lord Dakshinamurthy, Lord Brahma, and Lord Vishnu, showcasing the distinctive vesara style. The sacred tank of this temple is named Brahmma Theertham.
