Navaratri is one of the famous festivals celebrated around India, where the nine nights are dedicated to the three goddesses Lakshmi, Durga, and Saraswati. This worship is said to be a festival exclusively for women. A night for Shiva is ‘Shivarathri’, while nine nights celebrated for Ambal are called Navaratri.

In Tamil Nadu, Golu dolls, which depict legendary gods, avatars, peoples, creatures, and animals are magnificently displayed during Navaratri in most temples and homes.

For Navaratri, it is always best to choose clay dolls to put in the Golu / Kolu dolls collections. As these earthen clay dolls are based on Pancha Bhuta – the five great elements. As a potter treads on the ground making clay to make a toy. He adds water to make it a toy.

Then he fires the idol to make it stand majestically and he paints it and lets it air dry. Then he worships the doll thinking it is a deity. In this way, by buying earthen dolls in the nature of Pancha Bhuta and placing them in our Golu / Kolu dolls collections.

How to Arrange Navarathri / Dasara Golu / Kolu Dolls Arrangement order?

Nowadays Gollu steps / Padi / stand are available ready-made. We can buy as many steps as you want for Gollu and instantly get ready. We need to place a silk saree or any new saree or cloth on the steps and then place the toys. The steps / Padi / staircase numbers should be in odd numbers like threes, fives, and sevens. Traditionally, most people would make Golu by placing seven steps or nine steps in their house.

But now there are those who put five steps as three steps due to lack of space or some other reason. No matter how many steps you take, count 1, 2 from bottom to top. On the step above, the idols of God should be placed on the highest step. After that should be placed Siddhas, then humans, and then different beings.
