Sri Kulandaivel Swamigal and Sri Muthaiya Swamigal Jeeva Samadhi Temple is just near the Chithirai Kulam in Mylapore, Chennai. This is a 300 years old temple, where the Jeeva samadhis of two Siddhar Sri Kulandaivel Swamigal and His disciple, Sri Muthaiyah/Muthiah Swamigal both lived at this place. Sri Muthiah Swamy was the disciple of Sri Kuzhandaivel Swamy.  The word “Jeeva” means alive and “Samadhi” means tomb.

 

At Kulandaivel Swamy and Muththiah Swamy Jeeva Samadhi Temple, along with the main Lord Shiva sanctum, a Lord Ganesha idol and a Lord Murugan idol can be found on the left side.

History of Sri Kulandaivel Swamigal & Sri Muthaiya Swamigal Jeeva Samadhi

Kuzhandaivel Swamy obtained Jeeva samadhi on the third day of the month of Chithirai, during Poosa Natchathiram (star). Muthiah Swamy also attained Jeeva samadhi at the subsequent Poosam Natchathiram (star). A Shivalinga has been placed above the place where Kuzhandaivel Swamy attained Jeeva samadhi, while a Nandhi has been placed above the Muthiah Swamys samadhi.

Every day, a large number of individuals go to the temple for getting blessings from the Siddhars and also do meditation at their peaceful meditation hall.

Festivals at Kulandaivel Swamy & Muththiah Swamy Jeeva Samadhi Temple, Mylapore

Special guru puja is held each year in the month of Chithirai. Every month, special poojas are done on all Thursdays as well as Poosa Natchathiram, Amavasai, Pournami, and Krithigai.

At every Poosam and Pournami Annadhanam – the offering of food to devotees is done. Also, each day Abhishekams are conducted and the prasad is distributed.

The temple is well maintained and currently taken care of by Sri Shankar Vasanthi and her family for more than five generations.
